HOTHEAD ( HTH ) is an Arabidopsis thaliana plant gene that encodes a FAD- containing oxidoreductase . He is involved in the development of carpels , providing the fusion of epidermal cells [1] . In 2005, a sensational statement was made that plants with the HOTHEAD deleted gene were able to “remember” the genetic sequence of their ancestors by some non-Mendelian heredity: the descendants of mutants of homozygotes for the hth gene had a normal form of HTH [2] . Later studies showed that the cause of this strange phenotype was a pronounced bias towards outbreeding , while wild Arabidopsis plants usually self-pollinate [3] [4] .
