Biography

Born on June 18 ( July 1 ) 1900 in the village of Velikaya Pavlovka, Zenkovsky district of the Poltava province in a peasant family [1] . From 1916 to 1918 he studied in Petrograd at the drawing school of the Society for the Promotion of Arts in Petrograd . From 1918 to 1919 he studied in Vitebsk in the studio of Marc Chagall . From 1924 to 1928 he studied in Moscow at the faculty of arts. In 1928 he moved to Kazakhstan [2] . There he worked in the editorial office of the newspapers Sovetskaya Steppe, Enbekshі Kazaza , and in the magazines Zharshy and Kyel tegygi [3] .

March 13, 1938 was arrested on a false denunciation. Sentenced to 10 years in prison, with subsequent loss of rights for 5 years. He served time in Kolyma , then in Magadan . In 1948, released. He continued to work in Magadan at the Sovetskaya Kolyma Publishing House. In 1957 he was rehabilitated, after which he moved to Alma-Ata [4] . He died on June 11, 1984 in Alma-Ata [3] .

Creativity

The works of Antoshchenko-Olenev are widely known - the graphics “Youth of the Fathers” (1958), “Longing” (1959), “Freedom and Death” (1962); psychological portraits of "I. Zhansugurov "(1958)," P. Picasso "," O. Renoir "(1962)," I. Zhakaev "(1965)," A. H. Yarmuhamedov ”(1983); linocuts from the life of contemporaries “The lights of new buildings are burning brightly” (1960), “On a Visit” (1964); a wonderful series of paintings dedicated to the modern East - “Khiva” (1965), “Poets” (1969) [3] .

A number of his easel linocuts are devoted to Shevchenko's themes: “My Thoughts, Thoughts” (1961), “In Captivity” (1961), “Soldier's Bread” (1964), “Shevchenko and Karakoz” (1964), “Get Up, Tear the Shackles and Enemy sprinkle evil will with blood ... ”(1964),“ Uprising ”(1964) [5] .
