Tourism in Paraguay is one of the developed sectors of the economy, according to data for 2010, 9,500 people are employed in the tourism industry [1] . In recent years, an increase in the flow of foreign tourists has been observed. Thus, in 2011, 520,926 foreign tourists visited the country compared to 465,264 the previous year, an increase of 12% [2] . Despite this, Paraguay remains one of the least visited tourist countries in South America. According to the World Tourism Organization , in the period 2013–2014, 610,000 foreign tourists visited the country [3] , according to this indicator, Paraguay overtook only Suriname and Guyana .

Foreign tourists in Paraguay are attracted to the traditions and customs of the local population, preserved in rural areas, natural resources, and also world heritage sites . One of the most popular tourist destinations from Brazil, Germany and Argentina is Cerrito , located 120 kilometers from Pilar , known as a sport fishing center.

Natural

The country has many places for adventure tourism. Some of them have the infrastructure that allows you to engage in extreme sports: zipline , rock climbing, hiking in the virgin forests, mountain hiking, rafting , horseback riding and others. It is practiced scientific and educational tourism, including the observation of the local fauna and flora . In Paraguay, there are also a number of national parks and other protected natural areas.

Sport Fishing

In Paraguay, there are a number of rivers, the largest of which are the Parana , the Tebikuari River and Paraguay . The rivers are distinguished by a large variety of ichthyofauna. The greatest value for anglers is sururbi - one of the species of the flat-headed catfish family, individual specimens of which reach a weight of 50 kilograms (cases of capture of specimens weighing 100 kg and 2 meters in length were recorded). Dorado is also popular .

One of the largest fishing centers - the city of Villa Florida by the Tebikuari River, also famous for its beaches. In this city, sports fishing and the local fish menu are popular, including, for example, the Paraguayan fish soup Kalda . In Villa Florida, there are competitions for amateur anglers, which are held under the supervision of special staff who monitor the proper enforcement of legislation, as well as fixing the size and weight of fish caught.

Since some species of fish in Paraguay are endangered, sport fishing is under control, fishing is prohibited for several months a year.
