Received a musical education as a pianist. From 1874 he worked in Vienna as a choral conductor, then also as an operetta conductor, he premiered a number of works by Johann Strauss the son , Karl Milleuker , Franz Suppe . He wrote a number of operettas, starting with Don Quixote (1879, together with Max von Weinzierl ). Since 1884, the regular conductor and composer of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Stadt Theater in Berlin, from the works for this scene, the marquis von Rivoli operetta (1884, with Richard Wife ) achieved the greatest success. The company also owns the piano transcription of the Strauss son Operetta Yabuk, or the Feast of the Fruits.
