The Madrid Agreement for the Suppression of False or Misleading Source Indices on Goods ( French Arrangement de Madrid concernant la répression des indications de provenance fausses ou fallacieuses sur les produits ) is an international treaty stipulating that “for all goods containing false or misleading misconception an indication of origin which directly or indirectly refers to one of the Contracting States or to a place located in such a state, as a country or place of origin, is imposed upon their import or such import should be prohibited, or other measures and sanctions are applied with respect to such importation ” [1] .

The agreement was concluded in Madrid in 1891 , then was revised in Washington in 1911 , in The Hague in 1925 , in London in 1934 , in Lisbon in 1958 and in Stockholm in 1967 .
The administrative functions of the Agreement are carried out by the World Intellectual Property Organization .
