Medal “To the Champion of Orthodoxy” (in the archive of the St. Petersburg Mint this medal is called “For the present military case” ) - a medal of the Russian Empire , established by Catherine II in 1769 . [1] According to researchers, this medal was intended to encourage the Greeks who rebelled inside the Ottoman Empire . The medal was made of silver. The medal depicts Catherine II, the collapsing minaret of the mosque against the backdrop of the raging sea, and the Christian cross was also depicted on the medal.
