Ital ( dr. Greek Ίταλος ) is the king of the Enotra , whose name, according to legend, is called Italy [1] . "The king of the Enotra, who are renamed the Italics, is valiant and wise, conquered the land between the Napeta and Skilaschi Gulfs [2] ." His statue of cedar stood in the palace of Latina in Lavrente [3] . According to Thucydides, one of the kings of the Siculs , by whose name Italy is named [4] .

Tradition calls him the husband of Leucaria, daughter of Latina and the father of Roma , the founder of Rome [5] . According to another version, their child was the daughter of Roma - the wife of Aeneas or Askania [6] . According to Aristotle, Ital turned his people from nomadic to settled. He also established new laws and the custom of sissity [7] .
