Vella ( German: Vella ) is a village and former commune in Switzerland , in the canton of Graubünden . The population was 437 people in 2010. The official code is 3605 . On January 1, 2013, together with the communes of Kumbel , Degen , Lumbrain , Morissen , Suraua , Vignon , Sevgain and Vrin, it became a part of the new commune of Lumnetsia , Surselva district

Geographical position
Prior to the merger, Vella Square was 7.38 km². 69.5% of the territory is occupied by agricultural land; 18.6% - forests; 4.6% - settlements and roads and the remaining 7.3% are not used (rivers, mountains, glaciers).
History
The parish church was first mentioned around 843, along with the royal estate, which was considered an imperial fortress (Romanesque-Gothic construction, rebuilt in 1661-1662). The parish was very extensive and included the entire territory of the future commune of Lumnetsia [1] .
The construction of the cable car through the Luminesia Valley in 1970 stimulated the development of holiday homes in the village. At the end of the 20th century, the share of traditional agriculture in the rural economy decreased, construction and tourism are actively developing [1] .
Population
As of 2010, 437 people lived in Vella. In 2011, 24.7% of the population were under the age of 19 years, 57.9% - from 20 to 64 years old, over 65 years old were 17.4% [2] . In 2000, 13.6% of the commune's population were German-speaking, 83.9% spoke Romansh, and 0.7% spoke Italian.

In the 2011 elections, the Christian Democratic People’s Party of Switzerland received the largest number of votes (55.6%), 18.5% voted for the Swiss People’s Party , 9.3% for the Conservative Democratic Party of Switzerland, 7 for the Free Democratic Party of Switzerland, 0%, for the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland - 7.0% [2] .
