Mercens Ostrodolodnik

Ostroholodochnik Mertens [2] ( lat. Oxytropis mertensiana ) is a species of dicotyledonous plants of the genus Ostroholodok ( Oxytropis ) of the legume family ( Fabaceae ). First described by the Russian botanist Nikolai Stepanovich Turchaninov in 1840 [3] [4] .

Distribution and habitat

Known from Russia (Northern Urals , Krasnoyarsk Territory , Yakutia , Chukotka Autonomous Okrug ) and the USA ( Alaska ) [5] .

It grows in well-moistened mountainous areas, rocky streams, in the tundra and along river banks [5] .

Botanical Description

Photophilous herbaceous plant [2] with an almost lost stalk [5] .

Leaves are complex [2] ; the lower leaves are single-leafed, the upper ones consist of three, less often four - five leaves. Leaflets are lanceolate, green in the upper and bluish from the lower part, glabrous or (rarely) with scattered white hairs [5] .

The inflorescence is racemose, with two to four flowers; a flower with a tubular cup covered mainly with black hairs and a pale violet or red-violet nimbus [5] .

The fruit is an oblong, almost one-nosed bean [5] .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16 [5] [6] .

Environmental Situation

The mercenary boatman Mertens is listed in the Red Books of the Komi Republic and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Russia) [5] .
