Jafari, Bashar

Born April 14, 1956 in Damascus . Bachelor of Arts in French Literature ( University of Damascus , 1977). He has three doctoral degrees:

• Doctor of Political Sciences ( University of Paris-South XI , branch in Co , 1982)
• Doctor of Political Science ( University of Paris IV Sorbonne , 1989)
• Doctor of Historical Sciences ( Sharif Khidayatullah University in Jakarta , 2002)

In addition to native Arabic , speaks French , English and Farsi ^[2] .

He began the diplomatic service as the third secretary of the Syrian embassy in France in 1983. At the UN he began as the first secretary and adviser to the permanent mission of Syria to the UN in 1991-1994. Since July 2006 - Permanent Representative of Syria to the UN, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Syria to the UN ^[2] .

Author of several books, including ^[2] :

• “ Lobbying in the USA” (1983)
• “The foreign policy of Syria in 1946-1982” (1986)
• “The UN and the New World Order” (1994)
• “Syrian Alliance Policy in 1918-1982” (2015, getting ready for publication)

Since the beginning of events in Syria in 2011, he believes that his activities at the UN are artificially hindered, up to direct sabotage with frequent supposedly technical malfunctions of the microphone during his speeches, as well as distorted simultaneous translations from Arabic. In this regard, it makes particularly important statements in English ^[3] .

Since March 2014, the US government imposed a restriction on its right to move around the country: no further than 25 miles (about 40 km) from the Columbus Circle borders ^[4] .

Married, has two daughters and a son, the family lives with him in New York .

In the summer of 2012, the eldest daughter of Scheherazade ( Sherry in the Americanized version), who at that time was 22 years old, became the subject of scandalous attention of the American media . She entered Columbia University that year. As a result, her identity was revealed by journalists who accused her of actively supporting Bashar al-Assad’s policies and entering the university on patronage. As a result of the rising wave of publications, the student council issued a statement that such people "should not belong to our university." Bashar Jafari indignantly described the story as “an unethical, immoral, baseless and animal-like brutal approach to my family”, used to put political pressure on him through his children ^[5] .
