Drama Theater of Juozas Miltinis ( lit. Panevėžio Juozo Miltinio dramos teatras , Panevezys Drama Theater ) - a theater in the city of Panevezys (Lithuania).
The theater was founded in 1940 on the basis of the Kaunas Theater Studio. In 1940-1954 and 1959-1980, the director of the theater was director Juozas Miltinis , who created a large theater school in a provincial Lithuanian city. In particular, Miltinis founded a studio that trained actors for the Panevezys Drama Theater.
During its heyday, the theater was known far beyond the borders of Lithuania: “... For many years,” wrote Natalia Krymova in 1971, “buses of theatrical colleagues from all over the Baltic go to every premiere in Panevezys. And not only the Baltic states - the rumor reached Moscow as well, a peculiar legend was already created about the Panevezys Theater and its director Juozas Miltinis ” [1] . Miltinis managed to create a strong acting ensemble in his theater: on his stage were, in particular, Donatas Banionis , Algimantas Masiulis , Bronius Babkauskas , Kazimiras Vitkus , Regina Zdanavichyute .
After the death of Miltinis, Donatas Banionis replaced him as a leader, but without his creator, the Panevezys Theater turned into an ordinary provincial theater, and Panevezys himself, “according to the director E. Nyakrošius,“ ceased to exist as a cultural center ” [2] .
