Fuhtel

Fukhtel ( German: Fuchtel - sword, broadsword; blow) - the flat side of a blade of cold steel [1] . In domestic tradition, the term holomen is often used.

Corporal punishment was also called the same punishment — punishment with furters, which represented a blow to the back with a flat, naked blade of a sword, saber, cleaver or broadsword (“fuchtal strike”, “fuchtel”) [1] . Hence the expressions “give a fuhtel”, “fuhtelnut”, “fuhtel”, which were used and are used in the sense of striking.

Punishment by swords was used in Prussia in the 18th century .

This punishment was borrowed from Prussia in the army of the Russian Empire in the 18th century and was applied until 1839 .

The punishment of the sweaters was used mainly in the cavalry . It was not included in the number of punishments imposed by the court, but was a disciplinary sanction (it could be appointed by the chiefs by virtue of their disciplinary authority).

This punishment was very convenient in the sense of speed and ease of its application, since the broadsword or sword was always with you, at the same time it was not, and especially, according to the then concepts, cruel. [2]

The “ Military Criminal Code ” of 1839 abolished the punishment with jackets, replacing it with rods .
