Feature

According to The Boston Globe , a quarter-life crisis begins to emerge after twenty, when it comes into contact with the "real world" [1] . Eric Homburger Erickson , who proposed the concept of eight crises that people face during their development, suggested a crisis at that age. The conflict with which he associated the initial stage of adulthood is the crisis of closeness (intimacy) against isolation . According to Erickson, after establishing a personal identity in adolescents, young people tend to form intense, usually romantic, relationships with other people [2] . Failures in this area of life stimulate feelings of loneliness, depression and suspicion [3] .

Typical symptoms of a quarter-life crisis are a sense of “loss, fear, loneliness, or confusion” before deciding which step to take to transition into adulthood. Studies have shown that unemployment and career choices are common causes of anxiety or stress in young people.

Some authors associate the concept of a quarter-life crisis with the so-called “ generation Y ”, whose representatives tend to delay the transition to adulthood for a longer period than their peers in previous generations, and stay longer in their parental home [4] .
