Spider (television series)

The picture unfolds in the fall of 1967, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution . In the capital's parks, a maniac is working, killing model girls and then leaving their bodies under red silk near the monuments to V.I. Lenin . Suspicion falls on the American journalist Michael Cottam, who lives in Moscow (with whom the KGB is interested), as well as several employees of the House of Fashion Models, including cutter Felix Kapustin. A KGB officer named Robert Lebedev is connected to the maniac’s case, who inclines to the first suspect, insisting on the political and ideological nature of the crimes. Cherkasov is increasingly sticking to the second version, especially since the material with which the corpses are covered is available only in the sewing workshop of Larisa Kapustina.

Meanwhile, some acrobat brothers Chikovani steal from Goznak the State Bank of the USSR and steal 1.5 million rubles ($ 2 million in historical terms) from there, making the work of the authorities very difficult. Robert’s people are detained by the head of a landmark expertise, but Cherkasov inclines to a completely different interpretation. He sends his girlfriend, police lieutenant Sonya Timofeev, to work in the “Fashion Models House” undercover to take a trace, and soon realizes that both leads are connected by one thread leading to a single mother by the name of Regina ... which will soon be “removed” ".

Film critic Irina Pavlova in St. Petersburg Vedomosti , comparing Spider with the previous two television series, noted a significant decrease in quality, one of the reasons she called the lack of a clear script. She also noted that the team of scriptwriters who worked on the series, in her opinion, could not make ends meet in the plot and did not imagine the realities of that era at all, and that “Evgeny Zvezdakov, quite obviously, neither in the textures of time, nor in Stories about the Spider does not understand anything. He plainly cannot explain a single motive for the actions of the heroes, forcing us to take everything on faith ” ^[1] .

Nevertheless, the series had a generally positive effect on the target audience during the premiere, which collected more views in the first two days than its predecessor, “The Executioner”.
