Biography
Born in the Livensky district of the Oryol province .
In 1818 - 1820 he studied at the Noble guesthouse at the Pedagogical Institute in St. Petersburg . His teachers were V.K. Kyukhelbeker , K.P. Arsenyev , A.P. Kunitsyn .
In 1824 - 1834 he served in the Moscow Archive of the College of Foreign Affairs, where he joined the circle of "any wisdom ." Together with S. P. Shevyrev and V. P. Titov, he translated the book by L. Thick and V. G. Wakenroder “On Art and Artists” ( 1826 ). In 1834 he retired. Spent a lot of time abroad, popularizing Russian literature. In 1837 , a book by German writer G. I. Koenig, Essays on Russian Literature, which he wrote based on conversations with Melgunov, was published in Germany [3] .
Melgunov is also known as the author of short stories , essays , literary and musicological articles , and romances . I was familiar with P. Ya. Chaadaev .
Wife (from 18.10.1844, Stuttgart) - Sofya Karlovna von Connermain (1820—?), Daughter of the Prussian Prime Minister. Guarantors at their wedding were V. A. Zhukovsky, N. V. Gogol and Count A. I. Gudovich .
He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery .
