Biography
Vasily Fedorovich Rudnev was born in the village of Konchinino , in the family of a poor rural sexton. After graduating from the Savior-Bethany Seminary [1] in July 1856, he was promoted to deacon by the Moscow Metropolitan Filaret and determined to serve in the Church of Cosmas and Damian in Tagannaya Sloboda [2] ; On August 2, 1868, at the request of the parishioners, Metropolitan Innocentius , he was ordained a priest of the Cosmodamian Church.
On the advice of Vasily Rudnev, the head of the church, a textile manufacturer D.I. Khludov, in 1871 presented the Diocesan Office with a large stone house on Ordynka , in which, after perestroika, the Mariinsky diocesan school for women was located; Vasily Rudnev was appointed a member of the Council of this school, as well as the icon-painting school opened with him.
In 1873, Vasily Rudnev was appointed rector of the Trinity Church on Shabolovka . In 1881, a library was opened at the church, which by 1888 contained 286 books of spiritual and moral content. In 1885, construction began on a new church building designed by N.V. Nikitin . On the day of consecration of the newly-built church, September 21, 1895, Metropolitan Sergius laid on Vasily Rudnev a golden cross with diamonds, presented "on behalf of the parishioners in gratitude for the many years of service and hard work on the construction of the church." And on May 15, 1897, a decree followed on the rewarding of him with the dignity of archpriest.
Archpriest Vasily Rudnev was appointed rector of the Moscow Danilov Monastery on July 18, 1901, and on August 18 he was tonsured a bishop of Dmitri Trifon in the church of the Moscow Epiphany Monastery with the name of Tikhon in honor of St. Voronezh ; the next day, in the Trinity Cathedral of the Danilov Monastery, Metropolitan Vladimir elevated him to the rank of archimandrite.
Archimandrite Tikhon died on Saturday, September 11, 1904 after a short illness. According to a contemporary, archpriest P. S. Shumov, recently the abbot of Danilov Monastery "suffered sorrows, even slander of evil people." In an obituary published in the Moscow Church Gazette in 1904, he was described as "one of the most prominent representatives of the higher Moscow clergy."
Family
Vasily Rudnev was married, but widowed in 1880. The couple had seven children, four survived:
- the eldest son Sergey became a hereditary honorary citizen;
- the youngest son Vasily became a priest;
- the eldest daughter (name unknown) married a priest, later Archpriest Ivan Mansvetov ;
- Alexander's youngest daughter (1879–1965) married an accountant at the Moscow Merchants Bank, a hereditary honorary citizen Alexander Nikolayevich Kolobashkin (1876–1924). They had a daughter, Elena Aleksandrovna Kolobashkina, in the marriage of Kavelmaher (1903-1992), the mother of the famous architectural historian V.V. Kavelmaher and the grandmother of the famous artist S.V. Zagraevsky [3] .
Proceedings
Even during the period of the deacon’s service, Vasily Rudnev’s favorite pastime was spiritual reading. At the last, very scarce means of his own, he began to collect a library, which, increasing, at the end of his life reached large sizes. His articles of spiritual content began to be published in the then open spiritual journal, " Useful Reading ." Subsequently, he wrote several essays on the temples in which he served. Quite famous were the works of Fr. Vasily Rudnev, dedicated to the St. Nicholas-Peshnoshsky Monastery : “A historical description of the man-hosted monastery of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Peshnos”, “St. Barsanuphius, the Kazan miracle worker as rector of the Nikolaev Peshnoshsky Monastery” and “Archimandrite Methodius. Rector of the Nikolaev Peshnoshsky Monastery (Biographical essay) ”(1893-1895). A number of works were devoted to the John the Baptist Monastery : “Renovation of the Moscow Ivanovo Monastery” (1879), “The Ascetic of the Moscow Ivanovo Women's Monastery nun Dosifeya (Princess Tarakanova)” (1888) and “The Blessed Schematine Nun Martha, ascetic of the Moscow Ivanovo Monastery (1889).
