- January - in the Moscow Metro , type A and B metro cars were decommissioned
- March 27 - Opening of the first launch site of the Washington Metro .
- May 8 - traffic on the first line (U4) of the Vienna Underground is open.
- September 30 - Brussels Metro opened .
- December 15 - Gallery Place - Chinatown station opened on the existing section of the Washington Metro Red Line .
- December 17 - the first section with a length of 2.3 km was opened for the second, Kurenev-Krasnoarmeyskaya line of the Kiev metro with three stations:
- “ Kalinin Square ” ( Ukrainian. “Kalinina Square” ), now “Independence Square” ( Ukrainian “Independence Square” );
- " Postal area " ( Ukrainian. "Poshtova square" );

- December 31 - Baku Metro station “ Nizami Ganjavi ” ( azerb. Nizami Gəncəvi ) was opened.
