Geographical position

Urgaksh village is located 3 km west of the administrative center of the village of Sovetsky on the Urgaksh river. In 1 km to the south of the village there is a highway of regional importance Yoshkar-Ola - Urzhum .

History

In 1886, a parish school was located in the village of Urgaksh, which was attended by 15 boys and 4 girls. The teacher was a priest from Rongi Alexey Alexandrovich Nikolsky. In 1899, the school opened the first stage. In 1919, 10 boys and 9 girls were trained.

In 1911 there were 37 courtyards in Urgaksh, in 1924 - 44 courtyards.

On the river there have long been two ponds in which a lot of fish were found. On the river there were three water mills. From distant and nearby villages brought grain for grinding. In the village there was a smithy, making pots, plates, jugs.

In 1921, labor artels for flour milling and woodworking were organized in Urgaksh. This year there were also labor labor cooperatives for the production of troughs, tar fields.

In 1935 the collective farm "Projector" was established.

In 1948 there was a major fire in Urgaksh. In addition to the rebuilt houses, a shop, a club, an office, a hostel were built in the village.

In 1959 the state farm of livestock production was established.

A special role in the history of Urgaksha was played by the road maintenance section, which was established in May 1945 to service roads. In the 1960s, this small road section served the roads to New Toryal and Morki , the entire Yoshkar-Ola - Urzhum highway, up to the village of Kosolapovo , Yoshkar-Ola - Zelenodolsk, right up to the border with the Tatar ASSR . Urgaksh village was a kind of road center. In the late 1990s, the organization was transferred to the village of Soviet.

In 1956 there were 96 courtyards in Urgaksh, in 1975 - 161 courtyards.

In 1980, a library was opened with a book collection of 7,500 copies. In 1984, the village opened an elementary school, a rural cultural center for 300 children and a kindergarten for 160 children. In 1992, a modern standard building was built for the school, and it was transformed into a secondary one. In 2003, a boarding school for gifted children from rural areas was opened at the kindergarten and Urgaksh secondary school.

In early 2004, the population of Urgaksh was about 1,400 people. By ethnic composition: Mari - 67%, Russian - 30%, there are Tatars, Chuvash and representatives of other nationalities.
