Story
On the way to Brighton, the TARDIS lands on Scala Canine on the south coast of England at the beginning of the 20th century. Noticing that the local lighthouse is not working well, the Doctor and Leela decide to stop by and ask for directions, since the TARDIS is apparently “lost in the fog”. But at the lighthouse, the Doctor finds the body of one of the caretakers, Ben. The other two, old Roiben and young Vince Hawkins, report fire falling into the nearby sea. They also report that the electricity supplying the lighthouse lamp has become inconsistent, and the Doctor understands that something is feeding them. Royben speaks of the mysterious Fang Rock Animal, who has once attacked the lighthouse. While the Doctor and Leela are investigating the situation, something is carrying Ben’s body out of the lighthouse, and mysterious electrical discharges kill all the fish near the island.
Because of the problems of the lighthouse, the yacht crashes into the rock. The survivors, the boatswain Harker, the deputy Colonel James Skinsale, the owner of the yacht Lord Palmerdale and the secretary Adelaide Lesssedge, are led to the lighthouse. It soon becomes clear that Palmerdale bought state secrets from Skinsale and hurried to London for the stock exchange, so the ship was going too fast.
Harker and the Doctor find Ben’s body, and the Doctor realizes that it was used as an anatomy manual for aliens. He decides to keep the creature outside the lighthouse, but Roiben soon disappears, which soon appears, but already changed. Palmerdale, standing on top of the lighthouse, is killed by a glowing newcomer, and Harker Royben, who has become obsessed or has become an alien. The doctor finds Harker’s body and then Roiben’s already cold body, which means that an alien has turned into him.
The creature descends into the lighthouse and starts killing the rest. First Vince dies, then Adelaide. The alien is the Rutanian, the main enemy of the Sontarans, a green drop-shaped amphibian, whose reconnaissance ship crashed into the sea, and now he is trying to call the mother ship. The Rutans are losing the war with the Sontarans, and they want to turn the Earth into their base because of its strategic position, and then start a counterattack. However, as soon as the Sontarans find the planet, it will become the target for their photon bombardment, which will entail numerous sacrifices. But the Rutants are susceptible to high temperatures, which the Doctor uses, driving the alien away. Dr. and Skinsale find Palmerdale diamonds, but the colonel dies. Using them to focus the beacon beam and turning the lamp into a laser, the Doctor destroys the Rutan ship. The flash blinds Lila for a while and repaints her eyes from brown to blue. The doctor quotes the poem "Flannan Island" and flies with Leela.
