Biography
Got the first music lessons from his father, violinist and conductor. Then he studied at the Liege Conservatory with Desiree Heinberg , Leon and Rodolf Massarov. After graduating from the conservatory in 1874 , he studied for some time in Brussels under the guidance of Henryk Wieniawski and finally in 1876 - 1879 . perfected his skills in Paris with Henri Vyotant .
In 1880 - 1882 Izai served as accompanist in the Benjamin Bilze Orchestra of Berlin (replacing his compatriot Cesar Thomson in this position); in the same period he made a concert tour of Scandinavia with Anton Rubinstein . In 1883 - 1886 Izai lived and worked in Paris, where he established personal and creative ties with leading French composers - in particular, Cesar Frank, as a gift on the occasion of Isaiah’s wedding with Louise Burdo (September 1886), dedicated his Sonata for violin and piano . Since 1886 , he settled in Brussels. Creator of the symphonic society "Izaya Concerts" (1895). In Brussels, Izai is one of the members of the Club of Twenty art community.
Regarding the performance of Frank's violin sonata by him, Caesar Cui wrote: “ In his programs, Rubinstein always served exclusively as art, unable to cope with the established, routine tastes of the public. A similar example of bold and noble independence in the choice of the one we performed was recently shown by our former first-class violinist Izai ” [1] .
He was buried in the cemetery of Ixelles in a suburb of Brussels.

Compositions
Izaya’s creative heritage includes over fifty works of the most diverse genres. He wrote 8 violin concerts, variations on the theme of Paganini and others. A large number of works for violin, among which 6 sonatas solo (1923) [2] . Each of the six sonatas is dedicated to one of the famous violinists - contemporaries of the author: the first to the Hungarian Jozsef Sigeti , the second to the Frenchman Jacques Thibault , the third to the Romanian George Enescu , the fourth to the Austrian Fritz Kreisler , the fifth to the Belgian Mathieu Cricbom , and the sixth to the Spaniard Manuel Quiroge . He also wrote the opera Miner Pierre (1931) - “Lyric Drama in the Walloon Dialect”.
