Biography
Ram Gopal Varma was born on April 7, 1962 in Hyderabad . His parents were Krishnam Raju, who worked as a sound engineer at [1] [2] , and his wife Suryama. From school days, the boy showed great interest in films.
Attended in Vijayawad , where he received a civil engineer degree [3] . After completing his education, Varma worked as an engineer at the Oberoi Hotel in Hyderabad [4] . But after several years he left this job and started working as an assistant director. As a director, he made his debut in 1989 with a Telugu film Siva , starring in which played Nagarjuna and . Siva brought the first film award to Varma - the Nandi Award for Best Director [5] . Two years later, he re-imagined it in Hindi with the same actors. Over the next ten years, he acted as a director in 9 films in Hindi and as a producer in 17 [6] .
The “gangster trilogy” is the most famous among his works: (1998), (2002) and (2005, dir. Vishram Savant) [7 ] , two of them brought him nominations for the Filmfare Awards for best film and best direction . In all, during his career, Varma was nominated for a Filmfare Award for Best Director 5 times, including for the films “ Merry Face ” (1995), (2003) and (2005), but was awarded the Filmfare awards only for the best storyline for the film “Merry” [8] and the best film according to critics for “Betrayal” [5] . Varma also received the National Film Award for the best film in Hindi in 2000 for [9] .
