Biography
The son of the sexton. From 1757 he studied at the Alexander Nevsky Theological Seminary and in 1767 was appointed "inspector" (assistant prefect of the seminarians). Since 1782 he taught the "rules of Russian eloquence, grammar and spelling" in the Sukhoput gentry corps. Isaev’s teaching activity was interrupted only in 1784 - 1788 , when he worked as a proofreader in the corps printing house. Ivan Isaev translated from lat. "Moral Philosophy" (1783) F.-H. Baumeister .
Translations
- Translated from Latin “Ethical philosophy in favor of youth” ( 1783 ) Chr. Baumeister, a popularizer of the metaphysical and teleological theory of Leibniz - Wolf on the pre-established harmony of the world. The book was used as a textbook and was repeatedly reprinted.
- Isaev is also known as a popularizer of Karl Linnaeus , whose translations of his works he published in The New Monthly Works (1790-1791).
