Biography

Daniel Samokhin was born in 1998 in Tel Aviv. His father is a figure skating coach, so Daniel has been with you since he was three years old. His idol was Evgeni Plushenko [2] . The family soon moved to the USA and he continued his figure skating classes with the new coach Pashkevich . Then he returned to his father.

In January 2013, Samokhin received the right to speak at the US Championship among beginners. However, he chose performances for Israel. At the junior stages of the Grand Prix, he brought his team a bronze medal. In the same season, he also performed in Sofia at the Junior World Championships .

The next season for Samokhin began not entirely successfully. At the stages of the Junior Grand Prix, he was not among the leaders, but managed to become the champion of Israel. At the same time, he began to perform among adults, making his debut in Germany at the Nebelhorn tournament . Israel for the European championship had a quota of two singles. Samokhin drove the second number and closed the top ten, beating many famous skaters. In the same season, in March, he played at the Junior World Championships in Tallinn , won the quota of two skaters for the Israeli team [3] .

In June, before the new season, the ISU announced Samokhin to one of the stages of the Grand Prix [4] . However, Daniel decided to perform again fully in the junior Grand Prix series. Here, the skater performed very successfully and managed to break into the final tournament [5] [6] , becoming the first Israeli single player to reach the final. The season 2015/2016 skater began in August in Anaheim , where he finished at the end of the top ten [7] . In September, he also managed to win an adult tournament in the United States [8] . In October, he managed to come second in the tournament Mordovian patterns in Saransk . In early December, in Barcelona at the very finals took fifth place [9] . A week later, he performs at the national championship, where he failed to defend his champion title. At the end of January, the skater performed at the European Championship in Bratislava and showed excellent skating in the short program, improving his previous achievements and only excitement in the free skate did not allow him to rise above seventh place. In a completely different way, after a month and a half, the situation in Debrecen at the junior world championships developed. After a short program, the Israeli skater took a place at the end of the top ten, but surpassed himself in an arbitrary (exceeded his previous achievement) and managed to unbalance all his competitors who spoke after him [10] . So he became the first Israeli skater to win a gold medal at the ISU Championship.

The Israeli skater began the new pre-Olympic season in Montreal at the Autumn Classic International tournament, where he performed not very successfully and took sixth place [11] . His performance at the Finlandia Trophy tournament in October turned out to be completely failed, where he, with a small number of participants, was unable to break into the dozen skaters [12] . In late October, the Israeli skater made his debut at the Mississauga Grand Prix stage , where he took his place in the middle of the standings at the Canadian Federation Cup [13] . In mid-November, he took part in his second stage of the Grand Prix this season in Beijing , where he was second in the Chinese Cup after a short program, but failed in an arbitrary and took place at the end of the tournament table [14] . In early December, Daniel performed in Croatia at the Zagreb Golden Horse tournament, where he won the short program, but failed the free program and took second place [15] . At the national championship, he, like a year ago, took second place. A complete fiasco awaited Daniel in Ostrava at the European Championship . Upon arrival in the Czech Republic, it turned out that his luggage (where the skates were) was lost. The Israeli skater bought new ones, but they could not fit him, he missed all the training. In the end, a few hours before the start, his brother Stanislav arrived, who had his own skates. Daniel skated his brother and did not manage to get into the final part [16] . In mid-March, he played in Taipei at the junior world championship , where he failed the short program (took 16th place), but managed to get together for an arbitrary one, where he won a small silver medal; and finally finished sixth [17] . At the same time, he slightly improved his previous sports achievements in the free program.

Olympic Career

In September, an Israeli loner began the Olympic season in Salt Lake City , where he did not perform very well at the US International Figure Skating Classic , taking tenth place [18] . A month later, he performed in the Grand Prix series at the Russian stage , where the skater finished last [19] . A week later, in Minsk at the Challenger series tournament, he managed to perform more successfully and finished with a bronze medal [20] . However, after a short program, he withdrew from the American stage of the Grand Prix . At the continental championship , once again in Moscow, Samokhin performed quite unsuccessfully, he failed to enter the final part. In mid-February, in Gangneung, at an individual tournament in the Olympic Games, an Israeli solo player performed very well and improved his previous achievement in total and free program. Finished at the beginning of the second ten skaters.
