Biography
Mir Mahbub Ali Khan was born on August 17, 1866 in the Palace in Hyderabad. He was the only surviving son of Nizam Asaf Jah V. After the death of his father, on March 6, 1869, when he was two years and seven months old, he became the sixth Nizam of Asaf-Jahi dynasty. The regents for the minor ruler were and Nawab Rashid-ad-Din Khan Shams-ul-Umra III. Shams-ul-Umra III died on December 12, 1881, and Salar Yung I remained the only regent. He performed his duties until his death on February 8, 1883.
The regent paid special attention to the formation of Mahbub Ali Khan. Training was conducted in English. An officer of the British Army, Captain John Clerk, who was fluent in Arabic, Farsi and Urdu languages, was appointed as mentor to Nizam. Also a great influence on the upbringing of Asaf Jah VI was rendered by the personality and the noble way of life of the regent Salar Djung I.
After becoming an adult, Asaf Jah VI began independent rule. Nizam's special passion was clothing and cars. His collection of clothes was one of the largest in the world at that time, and his wardrobe held a whole wing in the palace. He never wore the same clothes twice. He purchased the , which became the main decoration of the treasury of the rulers of Hyderabad. This diamond is currently owned by the government of India.
During the reign of Asaph Jaha VI in the Hyderabad principality, instead of Farsi, urud was declared the official language. At the same time, the first stamp was published and the local postal service was founded, electricity and the first railway line were carried out. Nizam paid special attention to the development of gardens and parks. With him, in Hyderabad, there was a tradition to fire a cannon three times a day: in the morning, at noon, and in the evening.
At the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Aliya Madrassah, the University and the Nizam Observatory were founded, the Charminar Mosque, the Palace of , the Hyderabad Town Hall and the Victoria Memorial Shelter were built. The people attributed to him the miraculous ability to heal a snake bite.
Asaf Jah VI forbade the sati rite - the burning of widows along with their dead husbands. Established the police and penitentiary service. Conducted a legislative reform, bestowing upon the subjects a constitution. Under him, the level of medical care for the population rose, which was greatly aided by both the generosity of Nizam itself and the professionalism of its chief physician, Arastah Yar Djung , to whom he bestowed a noble title.
Asaf Jah VI was married to Amat-uz-Zahrunnis Begum. He had seven sons and six daughters. Nizam died on August 29, 1911 in the Palace of Falaknum and was buried in the Mecca mosque in Hyderabad.
