History
The city of Philadelphia, which today is the capital of Jordan, Amman , was located in the Roman province of Arabia, Petraia and was the site of an ancient Christian eparchy of the same name. The Diocese of Philadelphia of Arabia was part of the Bosra Metropolitanate of the Eastern Antioch Patriarchate [1] .
Ancient church historians often confused the diocese of Philadelphia of Arabia with the diocese of Philadelphia of Lydia . French church historian Lequien mentions the names of the three bishops of Philadelphia of Arabia. Bishop Tsirion participated in the First Council of Nicaea in 325, Bishop Eulogius is mentioned among the fathers of the Council of Chalcedon in 451 and Bishop John, who lived during the time of Pope Martin I.
Currently, the titular diocese has been vacant since 1995.
