- October 1 - Werner von Siemens , together with Johann Halske created the company Telegraphen-Bauanstalt Siemens & Halske , which in addition to electro-telegraphy was engaged in a wide range of works in the field of precision mechanics and optics , as well as the creation of electromedical devices. Today this company is known as Siemens AG .
