Biography

Alexander Prilepin was born on June 13, 1941 in the city of Pavlovsky Posad ( Moscow region ). In 1964 he graduated from the State Central Institute of Physical Culture (GTsOLIFK) and began coaching at the Central Army Sports Club (CSKA) .

From 1975 to 1980 he was the head coach of the USSR youth team, and in 1980-1985 he headed the coaching staff of the USSR national team, which under his leadership won 8 medals of the Olympic Games in Moscow (1980) , as well as 30 medals of the world championships (1981-1983) ) [1] .

In the fall of 1984, Soviet athletes Alexander Kurlovich and Anatoly Pisarenko were detained at customs at the entrance to Canada for trying to import anabolic steroids into this country for sale [2] . Despite the fact that Prilepin did not know about the actions of his wards, in May 1985, by a decision of the Sports Committee of the USSR, he was removed from the post of head coach of the national team and deprived of the honorary title of "Honored Coach of the USSR."

Severely experiencing the incident, he died of a stroke on June 25, 1985 [3] . He was buried at the Khovansky cemetery in Moscow.
