Before Colbert began broadcasting, for 22 years, starting in 1993, David Letterman hosted the Late Show . In recent years, the transfer rating has begun to fall. In February 2013, according to TV by the Numbers , an average of 3.1 million viewers watched the broadcast [2] , a year later this figure dropped to 2.8 million [3] . On April 3, 2014, Letterman announced that he was going to retire, and the latest release of the program will be released on May 20, 2015. On April 10, CBS announced that it would be replaced by Stephen Colbert [4] .
