Biography
Educated at the National College of Craiova , from 1907 to 1910 he studied at the University of Paris . In 1916, under the leadership of Emil Picard, he defended his thesis and received a doctorate in mathematics.
In 1916 he returned to his homeland and took part in the battles of the First World War at the front in Dobrudja , then - Moldova .
After the war ended, in 1919-1921, as a professor of mathematics, he lectured at Iasi University , and from 1921-1939, at Chernivtsi University . Since 1939 he lived and worked in Bucharest, first at the Polytechnic University of Bucharest , and since 1941 - at the University of Bucharest , where in 1944-1945. was rector, in 1948-1951 - dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics.
Since 1949 - the first director of the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy.
He was also engaged in active socio-political and state activities. In the years 1946-1948 - Ambassador of Romania to France.
In 1946, he was a member of the Romanian delegation at the 1947 Paris Conference , led by G. Tetarescu [5]
Died of a stroke .
Scientific activity
Major works on the topological theory of functions of a complex variable .
The author of more than 100 scientific publications.
