Marlon James ( born Mar 24, 1970 , in Kingston ) is a Jamaican writer, the first ever Booker Prize winner from Jamaica for the novel A Brief History of the Seven Murders , published in 2014.

Biography
James graduated from the University of the West Indies , where he studied language and literature. In 2006, he received a master 's degree . Since 2007, she has been teaching at McAlester College in St. Paul , Minnesota . [1] [2] Lives in Minneapolis [3] [4] .
Published his first novel in 2009. In 2014, his third novel, A Brief History of the Seven Murders, was released. The book was highly praised by critics, and in 2015, James received a Booker Prize for it. Stepping on the stage where the prize was presented, he joked [5] :
| I was so sure that I won’t win, that I didn’t even prepare a speech corresponding to the event. |
