During our attack, I was wounded in the right hand. I am bleeding and feel terribly weak. I shout: “Don’t give up!” - but everyone is busy with himself. Exhausted, I fell unconscious on a pile of straw. When I came to, I tried to pull out the revolver and shoot myself with my left hand through the overcoat, but I couldn’t get it. Two hours later, ours launched an offensive again.

As a result of the wound, due to the onset of gangrene, the right arm had to be amputated in Marchenko’s hospital. Having discharged after lengthy treatment, he arrived in Yekaterinodar in mid-August 1918 and appeared in his regiment: after which he was appointed to the company of General Markov.
