Biography
Phillip Neuss was born on April 29, 1950 in the city of Griffith, New South Wales, Australia. When he was 12 years old, the family moved to Sydney. At 18, he directed his first short film, Better to Reign in Hell (Better to Reign in Hell). He entered the University of Sydney twice, first to the Faculty of Law, then to the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1973, Noyce entered the Australian National Film, Television and Radio School, which opened that same year. Here he shot the 50-minute documentary Castor and Pollux (Castor and Pollux, 1974), which won the Ruben Mamoulian Prize at the Sydney Film Festival as Australia's best short film [1] [2] .
In 1975, Neuss made his first professional film, the 50-minute documentary drama God Knows Why, But It Works. The first feature film was the Backroads road movie with renowned Australian actor Bill Hunter , who also starred in two other Neuss films. The next film, “The Movie Front” (“Newsfront, 1978”), won the Australian Academy of Motion Picture and Television awards in the categories “Best Film”, “Best Director” and “Best Original Screenplay”, which also opened the London Film Festival and participated in major successes. The international success of the Australian film Dead Calm starring Nicole Kidman led Phillip Noyce to Hollywood , where he directed 6 films in the 90s [1] , including two political thrillers with Harrison Ford, Games of the Patriots and Direct and a clear threat ”, as well as the erotic thriller“ Sliver ”, which became the most disastrous of his career - for him, Noyce was nominated for the Golden Raspberry antipreservation as the worst director [2] .
In 2002, Neuss returned to Australia, where he made the film " Cage for rabbits, " in the same year the film " Quiet American ." Both films were very successful and brought the author several awards ( Rotten Tomatoes rating of 88% and 87% respectively) [3] [1] [2] .

From 1971 to 1977, Phillip Noyce was married to Jan Chapman , an Australian film producer. The second marriage, also with the film producer, Jan Sharp , lasted from 1979 to 2004; in this marriage a daughter was born, Lucia. Since 2006, married to South African designer Vuyo Dyasi (Vuyo Dyasi), in this marriage were born son Luvuyo (Luvuyo) and daughter Ayanda (Ayanda).
