Hippodamia ( fr. Hippodamia ) is a musical tragedy in five acts with the prologue of the French composer Andre Kampra . Académie Royale de Musique ( Paris National Opera ) was first staged on March 6, 1708. Libretto author Pierre-Charles Roy based on the dialogues of Lucian of Samosata . The opera is based on the ancient Greek myth of Hippodamia , the daughter of Enomay .
According to Lucian, Enomay fell in love with his own daughter, and in order to keep her with himself, he organized a fierce contest: the grooms had to overtake him in horse racing, the loser lost his head. Thirty young men fell from Enomai's hand until Pelope entered the competition . The gods, outraged by Enomay's cruelty, helped defeat Pelope. He killed Enomay and got his daughter [1] .
