Biography
Robin Campillo was born on August 16, 1962 in the Moroccan port city of Mohammedia . After graduating from school in Aix-en-Provence , he studied at the Higher Institute of Cinematography (IDHEC, now La fémis ) in Paris in the early 1980s. There he met his future friend and associate Laurent Cante . Then he began working in the cinema - starting with the editor, and then - as a screenwriter and director.
Together with Laurent Cante, as a screenwriter, Robin Campillo worked on the films Time Out (2001), South (2005) and the film Class (2008), which won the Golden Palm Branch at the 61st Cannes Film Festival and Cesar Award Best Screenplay.
As a director, Campillo made his debut in 2004 with the fantasy film Returnees, set in its own script.
In 2013, Robin Campillo directed his second film, “ Boys from the East, ” who took part in the 70th Venice Film Festival [1] and won the main prize for the best film in the program “Horizons” [2] . In addition, the film was nominated in three categories for the 2015 Cesar Award as the best film and as the best directorial work .
