Korpilahti

Location of Korpilahti in Finland

Korpilahti ( Fin. Korpilahti , Swede. Korpilax ) is a former municipality in Finland. It was merged with Jyväskylä on January 1, 2009.

It is located in the former province of Western Finland and is part of the Central Finland region. In 2003, the population of the municipality was 5,016 people. In addition, about 4,500 people visit 2,000 summer cottages in the summer.

Area - 794.62 km ² of which 177.44 km ² water. The population density is 6.3 people per km². The municipality is Finnish-speaking . It was formerly also known as Korpilax in Swedish documents, but today it is also called Korpilahti in Swedish. Politically, the Finnish Center party is dominant. Korpilahti is one of the poorest municipalities in Finland with an unemployment rate of 14.4% (2002).

Korpilahti is relatively well known for its beautiful nature, mountains and about 200 lakes. Päijänne , Finland's second largest lake, is partly located in the Korpilahti region.
