Biography

Butcher's son Sylvester Murau graduated from high school and also learned to be a butcher. He worked as a cattle seller, coal loader and fireman. In 1944, he was sentenced to six years in prison for poaching and violating the prohibition of gun ownership. He served time in Celle . After the war, he moved his ex-wife and children to Wismar, where he himself worked in the People’s Police. In November 1949, he joined the Stasi Schwerin department, where he quickly made a career and took the position of deputy department head. In 1951, he was dismissed from service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the GDR for having hidden in his biography his alleged participation in fascist self-defense formations in Poland . Murau himself explained his resignation by the fact that he was considered the performer of two murders of state and party leaders on Usedom .

In 1954, Murau fled through West Berlin to Germany and settled in Heubach near Darmstadt . In October of the same year, his 21-year-old daughter Brigitte, later Stasi agent under the operational name “Honett”, offered her father-in-law services. Brigitte was trusted by her father, who met with her in Heubach. During this meeting in Heubach, the father and daughter allegedly accidentally met two men. June 24, 1955 Murau, under the influence of alcohol, was taken by them to the GDR.

On February 22, 1956, the Cottbus District Court, chaired by Judge Lucia von Ehrenwall, sentenced Sylvester Murau to a death sentence, which was carried out on the morning of May 16, 1956 in the Dresden detention center by guillotine . On May 18, 1956, the death of Sylvester Murau from myocardial infarction was recorded in the registry office. Two men involved in the abduction of Murau were arrested in Germany and sentenced to 10 and 12 years in prison, which were serving in Moabit prison. Murau’s daughter escaped exposure, continued to live in the GDR, worked as a hairdresser, and married the organizer of the abduction of her father, Colonel Stasi Albert Schubert .
