Career
Seeing photos from her portfolio, directed by Lal José invited Amala to a cameo role in the Malayalam- speaking Neelathamara , a remake of the 1979 film of the same name [1] . Then, in 2010, she starred in several low-budget Tamil films. The first project in which she started working was the comedy Vikadakavi , but production stalled after 80% of the material was shot [2] [3] . Therefore, at first the film Veerasekaran , which was sharply criticized, was released [4] . He was followed by the controversial Sindhu Samaveli , where she played the role of a daughter-in-law who has a secret relationship with her father-in-law. The film received mixed reviews and sparked protests in Tamil Nadu. [5] However, the game Amala received a positive rating [6] [7] . And then followed the premiere of the romantic drama "Mine" Director Prabhu Solomon that became her first success. The actress earned critical acclaim [8] [9] and a nomination for the Filmfare Awards South for Best Actress [4] [10] .
At the beginning of 2011, she appeared in the supporting role in the Ithu Nammude Katha film in Malayalam, and in the spring, Vikadakavi finally went on a limited release. Her next release was The Child of the Moon Director A. L. Vidzhaya based on the American film " I Am Sam " [11] . The main roles in the film were played by Vikram and Anushka Shetty . Amala played the school correspondent, winning the acclaim of critics who wrote that her “expressive eyes helped her leave a mark in a small but important role” [12] and that she “showed herself well” [13] . "Child of the Moon" brought the actress the Filmfare nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role [14] . At the end of the year, the actress made her debut in Telugu cinema with the film Bejawada Rama Gopal Varma , in which Naga Chaitanya acted as a hero. The film received negative reviews and failed at the box office.
2012 began with the action movie “For the sake of a brother” N. Lingusami with Arya and Madhavan starring. The film received recognition from critics and at the box office. Reviews of Amala’s game were controversial, while Venkatesvaran Narayanan of The Times of India stated that she did a good job [15] , Paviffra Srinivasan of Rediff.com wrote that she “walks with a pompous look, puffs her lips and completely re-plays " [16] . A month later, after Valentine 's Day , several of her films were released at once. One of them is the romantic thriller Muppozhudhum Un Karpanaigal with Atarva in the role of a guy living in a dream world, where Amala played his imaginary girlfriend and her real prototype. A review by The Times of India said that she “finally got a role with some content after a couple of easily forgotten films” [17] , and a critic from NDTV added that she pays tribute to her character and shows emotions well [18] . Another release of that day was a bilingual romantic comedy with Siddhart published under the names Love Failure in Telugu and Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi in Tamil. In the reviews, it was noted that Amala and Siddhart formed an ideal couple [19] [20] . The Tamil version of the film brought the actress nominations for Filmfare [21] and the SIIMA Awards [22] . Then, in June, at the Shanghai Film Festival , the premiere of her first arthouse film Akasathinte Niram , in which Amala played a deaf-mute girl, took place [23] . The film was included in the list of applicants for the nomination for the best foreign film " Oscar " from India [24] . Amala's last work in 2012 was the comedy thriller “Run, Baby, Run” with Mohanlal , one of the highest grossing films of the year in Malayalam [25] . Reviews about the actress’s game were generally positive, but Paresh Palicha from Rediff.com noted that although “Amala Paul is good at teasing with Mohanlal, she has almost nothing to do herself” [26] . The film earned her the SIIMA Award for Best Actress [27] .
The first films of 2013 were two Telugu films, Hero of Calcutta and “ With Two Girls, ” in which she collaborated with leading directors, V.V. Vinayakom and Puri Jagannath , and industry actors, Ram Charan Teja and Alla Arjun . “Hero of Calcutta” was one of the most successful films of the year in Hollywood, but Amala’s role was small. “With Two Girls” also performed well in the Indian and foreign box office, despite mixed reviews from critics. Sangita Devi of The Hindu wrote that “Amala Paul has managed to cope with a character who balances on a thin line between the naive and the absolutely stupid. But we want to see more from her ” [28] , while A. S. Sashidhar from The Times of India concluded that she plays“ so effectively that one can only guess who else could play the role better than she " [29] . Then the actress for the second time starred with A. L. Vijaya, with whom at that time she was already engaged. In the movie “ The Leader, ” she played a policewoman torn between a sense of duty and sympathy for a criminal, played by Tamil movie star Vijay . The “leader” received conflicting reviews, but Amala earned praise [30] [31] . And in December, she appeared on the screen in the small- language comedy Oru Indian Pranayakadha Satyan Antikkata . This role was also rated positively [32] [33] and earned her a number of film awards, including the SIIMA Awards [34] .
Amala also took part in a bilingual project directed by Samutirakan , a Tamil version of which is called Nimirndhu Nil with Jayam Ravi starred in March 2014. Janda Pai Kapiraju , a Telugu version of the film with Nani , was due out a few months later, but was postponed for almost a year due to financial problems [35] . Nimirndhu Nil showed average box office at the box office, but the next actress film, Velaiilla Pattadhari with Dhanush, collected 50 crore (500 million rupees) with a budget of five [36] . In two more films of 2014, Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam in Tamil and Iyobinte Pusthakam in Malayalam, she appeared as a cameo [37] [38] .
In early 2015, she appeared in the lead role in the small-language film Mili about a girl with low self-esteem, who decides to change her life for the better. Deepa Soman of The Times of India wrote that the actress gave her heroine the right amount of vulnerability, mischief, restraint and helplessness and captured all the nuances of character [39] . Then the screens finally came Janda Pai Kapiraju . The film received positive reviews, noting that she successfully coped with the role of [40] [41] . Another spring release was the spy thriller Lailaa O Lailaa in Malayalam. Director Joshi Apparently, he wanted to repeat the success of his “Run, Baby, Run”, taking the same actors in the lead roles, but the undertaking failed [42] . In December, she appeared with a small role in the Tamil film Pasanga 2 , earning a positive rating in reviews [43] [44] . The actress was also invited to a supporting role in a new film with Vishnu Manchu [45] .
