Minnesota (river)

Minnesota is the right tributary of the Mississippi River in Minnesota , USA . The river is 534 km long. Its pool area is about 44,000 km², of which 38,200 km² are in Minnesota and 5,200 km² in South Dakota and Iowa [1] .

The river originates in the southwest of Minnesota in Big Stone Lake and flows southeast to Mankeyto , after which it turns to the northeast.

The River Valley is the birthplace and center of the canning industry in Minnesota [2] [3] .

On June 19, 1852, the US Congress , acting at the request of the territorial legislature of Minnesota, approved the local name of the river as official. [4] [5]
