Viscount Hailsham from Halesham in Sussex County - ancestral title in the United Kingdom Peer system. It was created on July 4, 1929 for the lawyer and conservative politician Douglas Hogg, 1st Baron Halesham (1872-1950), who twice served as Lord Chancellor of the United Kingdom (1928-1929, 1935-1938). In 1928, he already received the title of Baron Halesham from Halesham in Sussex ( United Kingdom Peersty). Douglas Hogg was the son of philanthropist Quintin Hogg (1845–1903), the seventh son of Sir James Hogg, 1st Baronet (1790–1876), who was the eldest son of James McGarel-Hogg, 2nd Baronet (1823–1890), who 1887 received the title of Baron Mageramorn .

He was succeeded by his son, Quentin McGarel Hogg, 2nd Viscount Halesham (1907-2001), who was also a well-known lawyer and conservative politician. On November 20, 1963, he refused to recognize his peerage after the adoption of the Peers Act of 1963 and received the right to be elected to the House of Commons of Great Britain . Quentin McGarel Hogg was elected to the House of Commons from Oxford (1938-1950) and St. Marylebone (1963-1970), served as Deputy Minister for Air (1945), First Lord of the Admiralty (1956-1957), Minister of Education (1957), Lord - Chairman of the Council (1957-1959, 1960-1964), Lord Keeper of the Small Press (1959-1960), leader of the House of Lords (1960-1963), Minister of Health and Science (1964) and Lord Chancellor (1970-1974, 1979 —1987). In 1970, he received the title of lifetime peer as Baron Halesham from St. Marylebone at Herstmonceau in Sussex and returned to the House of Lords.

In 2001, after the death of the 2nd Viscount Halesham, the titles of Baron and Viscount were inherited by his son, Douglas Martin Hogg, 3rd Viscount Halesham (born 1945). Like his father and grandfather, he is a lawyer and conservative politician. He was a member of the House of Commons of Great Britain from Grantham (1979-1997) and Sliford and North Highham (1997-2010), and Secretary of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1995-1997). Lord Halesh is the husband of Sarah Hogg, Baroness Hogg (born 1946), who in 1995 received the title of life peer as Baroness Hogg in her own right.
