Biography
The daughter of violinist Samuel Dean Grimson , received an initial musical education from her father, then graduated from Royal College of Music (1895). From childhood, she performed in the ensemble with her sisters Annie and Amy , forming a piano trio. Already during her college years, she performed both as a soloist with a student orchestra and as a leader of a chamber ensemble. At the end of college, she acted as a soloist with the orchestra of August Mans , while continuing to participate in the family ensemble. In 1902-1918 led her own string quartet; Frank Bridge played the second violin or, sometimes, the alt in its composition, in connection with which the quartet acted as the first performer of many of his compositions; the cellist was Eduard Mason (1878–1915), whom Grimson soon married.
