Biography
Carrodus’s father kept a hairdresser and music store in Kitley and, as an amateur musician, gave his son the first lessons. At the age of nine, Carrodus performed in Kitley with his first concert, at the age of 12 he went to London to continue his musical education, where he studied with Bernard Molik , then after his mentor he moved to Stuttgart . Returning to England in 1853, he attracted the attention of Michael Costa , thanks to whom he entered the Covent Garden Opera House orchestra two years later, and in 1869 replaced Prosper Senton as his accompanist and remained in this place for 20 seasons. At the end of his life, Carrodus was the first violin of the Philharmonic Society orchestra. He also performed as a soloist and leader of the string quartet, however, he completed his solo career in 1891 after a long tour in South Africa. For several years he taught at the Guildhall School of Music . He published a number of his own light compositions, edited the mass edition of the musical series “Famous Violin Duos” (1888).
