6th Heavy Cavalry Division (First Empire)

The 6th division of the heavy cavalry ( fr. 6e division de grosse cavalerie ), sometimes also the 6th dragoon division ( fr. 6e division de dragons ) - the cavalry division of France during the Napoleonic Wars .

Division History

The division was formed by Napoleon on January 2, 1812 from the cavalry reserve of the Italian Observational Corps [1] [2] .

February 15, 1812 became part of the 3rd cavalry corps of the Great Army [1] .

On February 6, 1813, Napoleon reorganized the cavalry, and the division was not recreated.

On October 13, 1813, it was re-formed as part of the 5th cavalry corps of dragoon regiments, arrived from the Iberian Peninsula [3] .

On November 18, 1813, due to the enormous losses suffered in the Battle of the Peoples , the Emperor reorganized the French army. The division changed the number to the 4th .

On February 19, 1814, the Dragoons division, which arrived from Spain, received the 6th number, and became part of the newly formed 6th cavalry corps [4] .

Fought until the Emperor's abdication.
