"Cleric" ( Cleric quintet ) - a series of books by Robert A. Salvatore in the fantasy genre . It consists of five novels: “Canticle” (1991) “In Sylvan Shadows” (1992) “Night Masks” (1992) “The Fallen Fortress” (1993) and “The Chaos Curse” (1994). The name of the series was mistakenly translated as “Cleric Quintet” or “Clerical Quintet”, although the word “quintet” in the name means “pentalogy”.
The quintet tells the story of the struggle of young Cadderly , a cleric of the god Deneir, and his friends with the power-hungry magician Aballister, a servant of the goddess of poisons Talona. The events of the series take place immediately after the Time of Troubles , the avatar crisis in Fairun . Cleric is closely associated with the series about Drizzt Do'Urden , chronologically the events of the quintet occur between the novels Invasion of Darkness and The Path to Dawn. Later, Cadderly and other Cleric characters often appear in novels about Drizzt, Artemis Entreri and Jarlaxle .
The names of many characters and place names are references to other literature or reality. So, Danica Maupassant bears the name of the French writer Guy de Maupassant . Prince Elberet is named after Valie Varda ( Synd. Elberet ) by Tolkien . Tintagel in reality is a castle in Britain, often mentioned in the legends of the Knights of the Round Table .

Cadderly's young novice is an orphan from Carradon, raised without parents and raised by priests of the Order of Deneir in the Library of Mentors. Despite the mentions of the mentor Avery and the good-natured rivalry with the veteran Kierkan Rufo, Cadderly's life is completely cloudless. Among his friends are the funny twin dwarves Ivan and Pickel Boulders (half-dumb Pickel dreams of becoming a druid), the druid Nevander and nun Danika, a martial artist. The girl is united with Cadderly and a stronger feeling - love.
In Trinity Castle, the mage Aballister prepares a terrible spell - the Curse of Chaos, according to the recipe revealed to him by the poison goddess Talona. However, there is a discord among his supporters: warriors, magicians and priests are fighting for power over the Castle, forgetting about plans to conquer the whole country. For balance, Aballister is forced to give the priest Bargin the right to seize the Library with the help of the Curse. For help and at the same time supervision, he sends with Bardzhin his familiar , a cunning demon named Druzil.
Bargin places the Curse bottle in the dungeons of the Library. But according to the recipe, only an outsider who does not know about the Curse can open it. With the help of Rufo, the priest adjusts so that the bottle opens Cadderly. Soon, the Curse spreads through the Library. Its action is that it enhances all desires. Those who wanted to eat are overeating, druids who love transformations become wild beasts, Danica, a martial arts fanatic, is trying to break a stone with her head, and Kierkan Rufo almost raped her.
In this chaos, Cadderly is the only one who keeps a sober head. With a detachment from Danica, Nevander and two gnomes, he makes his way into the dungeon. With the help of necromancy, Bardzhin revived the dead from ancient crypts, zombies and mummies roam the dungeons. Nevander dies, Pickel miraculously survives, poisoned by Druzil's poison. Cadderly tries to stop Bargin, and accidentally kills the priest from a crossbow. The murder committed by his hands terrifies the young man.
The failure of Bardzhin in the Library, however, does not greatly upset Aballister, who lost his main rival. He is much more occupied by a young man in whom the magician suddenly recognizes his son, abandoned by him many years ago.

Goblinoids led by the giant Ragnor serving the Trinity Castle raid the elven forest kingdom of Shilmist. The Schilmisty prince, Elberet, goes to the library for advice. Kadderly and Danica are allotted to him in order to understand what is happening. Behind the detachment, Rufo, who was thirsty for forgiveness, also got involved. On the way to Schilmiste, Cadderly is increasingly outraged by the arrogance of the elven prince and is jealous of Danik. The young cleric is still haunted by the guilt for the murdered priest. When a squad encounters an orc ambush, Cadderly fights with everyone, but after that he tries to heal the wounded enemies. Elberet in cold blood finishes them.
Elves successfully resist the invasion of goblins by guerrilla sorties. Aballister sends Ragnor to help the sorceress Dorigen and again the treacherous demon Druzil. Druzil and Dorigen make threats and promises make Rufo their informant. Threesomes with the prince, Cadderly and Danica make a sortie to the enemy camp to kill the sorceress. Pre-warned, Dorigen ambushes, and all three fall into her hands.
Ivan and Pickel find their friends in the hands of the orcs and get involved in battle to free them. The captives break out and Dorigen is forced to flee, but the dwarves and the rescued Elberet hardly tolerate each other. Upon returning, the heroes discover that the stronghold of the elves is broken.
Kederley finds a book describing an ancient spell that awakens trees. The elf king is already preparing his people for the end and does not even want to hear about it. Heroes make their way to the ancient grove to apply the call of the trees, while an army of elves distracts the enemy. Using a magic song, Cadderly calls the trees to battle for the elves. In a long, stubborn battle, heroes and walking trees knock goblins out of the woods. Caring for the dying magician, Cadderly suddenly completely heals him. The young man is more and more afraid of his new, incredible abilities in magic. He leaves Schilmist to find the answer in solitude.
