Crater Piazzi ( lat. Piazzi ) - the remains of a large ancient impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of the Italian astronomer Giuseppe Piazzi (1746–1826) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the pre-Actor period [1] .

Crater Description
The nearest neighbors of the crater are Lagrange crater in the north-west; Lacroix crater in the east-southeast and Shikkard crater in the southeast [2] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 102.6 km [3] , depth 1620 m [4] .
Crater Piazzi is almost completely destroyed and blocked by rocks ejected during the formation of the Eastern Sea , located in the north-west of the crater, turning into a lowering area with difficult to distinguish borders. In the northern part of the crater there are several areas of flooded and leveled dark basaltic lava . In the center of the bowl are the remains of a smoothed massive central peak.
