The Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation (Code of Criminal Procedure) is the main source of criminal procedural law , establishing and regulating the procedure for criminal proceedings in the Russian Federation . This is a codified legal act , which is the main source regulating the procedure for criminal proceedings in Russia.

Basic Information
The current Criminal Procedure Code was adopted by the State Duma on November 22, 2001 and approved by the Federation Council on December 5, 2001 .
According to paragraph 3 of Art. 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation , the generally recognized principles and norms of international law and international treaties of the Russian Federation are an integral part of the legislation of the Russian Federation regulating criminal proceedings. If an international treaty of the Russian Federation establishes other rules than those provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, then the rules of the international treaty shall apply.
Code structure
The Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation is a codified statutory act consisting of six parts:
- General provisions
- Pretrial proceedings
- Court proceedings
- Special Procedure for Criminal Justice
- International cooperation in the field of criminal justice
- Electronic Documents and Procedural Document Forms
The six parts of the Code are divided into 19 sections, 62 chapters (including chapters 32.1, 40.1, 45.1, 47.1, 48.1 and chap. 43, 44, 45, 48, 57) and a total of 475 articles.
