Barbu Stefanescu Delavrancha (real name and surname is Barbu Stefanescu ) ( rum.Barbu Ştefănescu Delavrancea ; April 11, 1858 , near Bucharest - April 29, 1918 , Iasi ) - Romanian writer, poet, publicist, politician. Member of the Romanian Academy (since 1912). One of the leading figures in the national revival of Romania.

Biography
Born in a large family. He studied law at the University of Bucharest , then studied in Paris . In 1884 he returned to his homeland, began to collaborate with the Romanian national democratic and socialist press.
At the end of his life, Delavrancha was a deputy and minister of public works.
Died and buried in Iasi.
Creativity
The author of realistic short stories with accents of social and public criticism, poems in prose, and dramatic works.
How the poet made his debut in 1877 with verses in the newspaper “Free Romania”. As a short story debuted in 1883. His first book of short stories “Sultanike” (1883) is dedicated to the life of the village. The realist talent of the writer was fully manifested in the short story collection "Parasites" (1893), which reveals the picture of the moral decline of society. In the cycle of historical tragedies “Sunset” (1909), “Buran” (1910), “Star” (1911) B. Delavrancha turned to the past of the country, resurrecting the dramatic situations of internal strife, which inevitably accompanied the centuries-old struggle for independence.
Like most of the less significant Romanian writers, he reflected in his work the discontent of significant sections of the intelligentsia of the late 19th century, the discontent created by the slow development of capitalism in Romania due to the preservation of large semi-feudal survivals.
