History
The London and Southampton Railways planned the construction of a line through Kingston, but the Kingston administration objected to the construction and the railway went 2.4 kilometers south of the city. Kingston First Station opened in 1838. [3]
In 1840, the station was moved 0.80 km west of Serbiton . The line to Hampton Court was built in 1849 , and the line to New Guildford in 1885 .
Subsequent renaming of the station was Kingston Junction in late 1852 and Serbiton and Kingston in 1863, when the current Kingston station was opened. The modern name - Serbiton station received in 1867 .
In 1937, the station was completely rebuilt. The building was designed by architect Jam Robb Scott in the Art Deco style [4] .
Ticket offices at the station are open seven days a week.
Incidents and incidents
A major incident occurred on July 4, 1971 , when a freight train went off the rails between platforms 3 and 4. Unaware of what had happened, the driver continued to move, as a result of which 2 cars went off the rails and rammed the platforms. At the same time, an express passed through the station and collided with wagons that had gone off the rails. As a result, there were no casualties [5] .
