Work on the album began in January 2015. An orchestra of 60 musicians was involved in the recording. The disc was released on November 6, 2015 via Hall of Sermon Records. This date is dedicated to the twenty-fifth anniversary of Lacrimosa, which appeared in the fall of 1990, when Tilo Wolff released his first demo Clamor [3] . The album contains 10 songs, including “Mondfeuer” - the longest track in the group’s history, which exceeds the length of the song “Die Strasse der Zeit” from the album Stille [4] [5] [6] . In addition to the standard edition, the group released a Deluxe edition of the album, supplemented by an alternative version of the song “Keiner Schatten mehr” and a bonus DVD with the recording of a concert by Lacrimosa in Mexico City.
The first songs from the Hoffnung album, performed at the concert, were “Keiner Schatten mehr” and “Kaleidoskop”. They were presented to the public at the first of the two anniversary concerts of Lacrimosa in Germany, which took place on September 18, 2015 in Oberhausen [4] [7] . The second concert was held on September 19 in Dresden . During these concerts, the album cover was also shown for the first time. Its author was Shtelio Diamantopoulos, a permanent artist of Lacrimosa, who worked on the covers of all the group's previous studio albums.
The tour in support of the Hoffnung album, called Unterwelt-tour, the group began with a concert in Minsk on November 13, 2015 [8] . As part of the tour, musicians performed in Belarus, Russia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Germany and Belgium [9] .
