Biography
Marta was born in Madrid ( Spain ). Her father, Antonio Sanchez Camporro, was an Asturian opera singer. She began her musical career with the band Cristal Oskuro, but shortly afterwards she was invited by Tino Azores, sound engineer of the popular pop / rock band Olé Olé. In 1985, Marta became the vocalist of the group, which brought her fame and made her one of the largest sex symbols of the 1980s in Spain, at a time when Catholicism was weakening in the country.
Her first hit with Olé Olé was called Lily Marlene, a Spanish adaptation of the popular German love song. She remained with the group until 1991, before deciding to pursue a solo career.
In 1993, Martha released her debut solo album, Mujer . This made her one of the first musicians in Latin America to discover the English crossover . Her first single, Desesperada, was released in both Spain and America . The second single, “Tal Vez”, was presented in collaboration with Thomas Anders [2] . In 1995, Sanchez was nominated for the Lo Nuestro Award for Pop New Artist of the Year [3] .
The second solo album “Mi Mundo” was released in 1995 around the world as “Dime La Verdad”, followed by “Arena y Sol” and “La Belleza”. Thanks to the success of “Mi Mundo”, Marta once again released her second English-language album, entitled “My World”. In 1996, Martha recorded a song for the movie Gotting Blood , released by Quentin Tarantino .
Her third solo album, “Azabache,” was released in 1997 in collaboration with Slash and Neil Rogers. The first single, "Moja Mi Corazón" reached number 1 on the charts in Spain and Mexico. Also in 1997, she recorded the duet “Vivo Por Ella” with Andrea Bocelli . She became a major hit in Latin America. Martha released her fourth album, Desconocida, in 1998. Her hits include Desconocida, Quiero Más de Ti and Los Mejores Años de Nuestra Vida. In 2000, she directed the musical Broadway Magic.
Her fifth album, “Soy Yo,” was released in 2002 and sold over 200,000 units in Spain. In 2004, she released “Lo Mejor de Marta Sánchez” in a compilation with three new songs, “Profundo Valor” and “Caradura”. The collection also included updated versions (with new vocals) from Desesperada and Soldados del Amor (from her days with Olé Olé), produced by Jean Carlos. In 2005, she released her first live album, entitled “Gira 2005: La Coruña En Directo,” which was released on CD and DVD.
April 2007 was marked by the release of the first single from the sixth studio album of the singer Miss Sánchez - the song "Superstar". Produced and co-written with DJ electric hit maker DJ Sammy, the song became a hit, reaching number one on AirPlay and digital chart sales in Spain. Miss Sanchez debuted at number three on physical disc sales and number one on digital sales.
Sanchez performed at Europride in 2007 as a special guest. In late 2008, she collaborated with Venezuelan singer Carlos Baute with the song “Colgando En Tus Manos”. It was a huge success since the single was released in America and reached the best position in the music charts in Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Uruguay, Puerto Rico, Chile, El Salvador, Colombia, Argentina and Mexico. The single was number one in Mexico and was number one in Latin Pop Airplay for two consecutive weeks.
