The crater Petrov ( lat. Petrov ) is a large impact crater in the southern hemisphere of the visible side of the moon . The name was given in honor of one of the developers of the first Soviet LPRE Evgeny Stepanovich Petrov (1900-1942) and was approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970.

Crater Description
The crater's closest neighbors are Jeep Crater in the north-northeast; Chamberlin crater in the east-northeast; Malton crater to the east; crater Wexler in the south and crater Gill in the west-south-west [1] . The selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater are , diameter 55.4 km [2] , depth 2140 m [3] .
Crater Petrov has a polygonal shape, significantly destroyed and flooded with dark basaltic lava . The shaft is flattened, in the southeastern part it has a depression and a narrow valley connecting the crater bowls Petrov and the satellite crater Petrov V, the southern tip of the shaft is blocked by the satellite crater Petrov A. The height of the shaft is different around the perimeter of the crater, reaching a maximum in the western and northwestern parts. The width of the inner slope is also variable and maximum in the western and northwestern parts. The volume of the crater is approximately 1900 km³ [4] . The bottom of the bowl is even, with a low albedo , in the eastern part of the bowl a low ridge stretches from south to north.
